ALBATROSS – ALBATROS KUŞU
Albatrosses look a bit like giant seagulls, but your chances of seeing one are limited. Albatrosses rarely come to land except to have babies. Even then, they prefer remote islands, rather than crowded beaches. Albatrosses have huge wings. Their wings work like the wings of a glider. Albatrosses can glide for hours and hours above the ocean, floating on a breeze. When they get tired, they float on the ocean water.
ALLIGATOR – TİMSAH
Alligator is a type of large reptile that appeared on the planet 37 million years ago. There are two species of alligator: American alligator, that lives in the southern parts of the USA, and Chinese alligator, that lives in the eastern parts of China. Alligator can be found in the swamps, slow-moving rivers, ponds and lakes. Chinese alligator is classified as critically endangered, while American alligator is still numerous and widespread in the wild.
ANACONDA – ANAKONDA
Anacondas are the largest and heaviest known snakes. They can be found in tropical rainforests, lakes and swamps of South America. Anacondas are especially numerous near Amazon and Orinoco rivers. There are 4 types of anacondas. Although they are large in size, scientists can’t find them easily because they hide in the water. People hunt anacondas because of their skin which is highly appreciated in the fashion industry. Luckily, they are not endangered.
ANCHOVY – HAMSİ
The anchovies are a family (Engraulidae) of small but common schooling saltwater plankton-feeding fish. They are found in scattered areas throughout the world’s oceans. Anchovies are concentrated in temperate waters, and are rare or absent in very cold or very warm seas.
ANNELID – HALKALI SOLUCAN
Annelids are a phylum of invertebrate worms. They are the segmented worms, with over 17,0000 known species. Well known species are earthworms and leeches. Annelids can be found in most wet environments. Some of these species are parasitic or mutualistic. This means they live together with (or inside) another organism. A mutualistic relationship is beneficial to both organisms. Their size varies from under a millimetre to about 3 metres. The largest known species is the seep tube worm, which is related to the giant tube worm.
ANT – KARINCA
Ant is a type of social insect. There are more than 12.000 species of ants and nearly as much species that are not discovered yet. Ants have appeared on the planet 130 million years ago. They can be found on all continents except on Antarctica. Tropical forests are home for most species of ants. Ants can improve quality of soil and eliminate parasites and unwanted insects from the gardens. They can be also used as a source of food for humans. Unlike beneficial ants, some species are classified as pest because they produce negative effects on the crops and attack (bite) livestock and humans.

Anteaters are funny-looking creatures that can be found in Central and South America. They live in grasslands, woodlands, rainforests and deciduous forests. There are four types of anteaters. Some of them are near threatened species.
ANTELOPE – ANTİLOP
Antelopes are large and diverse group of animals of the cow family (Bovidae). They live in Africa, Asia, Middle East and North America. Antelopes can be found in grasslands, mountains, deserts and wetlands. There are 90 different species of antelopes. 25 of them are endangered. Poaching and loss of habitat are main reasons why they are faced with extinction.
ARMADILLO – ARMADİLLO
Armadillos are the only mammals whose body is covered with hard shell. Only one armadillo species (nine-banded armadillo) lives in North America. Other 19 types live in South America. They inhabit grasslands, rainforests and semi-arid area. Most armadillo species are threatened because of habitat loss and hunting.
