HAMSTER – HAMSTER

Hamsters are small, nocturnal rodents, meaning they are more inclined to be active by night rather than in the daytime. Because of their nocturnal habits, Hamsters are less likely to be handled during the daytime and if they are, they are more prone to give you a nip as they may be grumpy. Hamsters are popular pets, the most common and largest one being the Syrian Hamster, also known as the ‘Golden Hamster’. The Syrian Hamster is naturally solitary and must be kept singular and not in pairs or groups as they will fight.

HARE – TAVŞAN

Hare grows to about 50 – 70 centimetres and has a tail length of 7 – 11 centimetres. The weight of a full grown adult hare varies between 2.5 and 6.5 kilograms. Because of its longer legs, it can run at speeds of up to 70 kilometres per hour. Hares are herbivores and their diet consists of grasses and herbs during summer months and changes to twigs and bark in the winter. Hare is known as a pest to orchard farmers as it also feeds upon buds of young orchard trees during the end of winter.

HEDGEHOGKİRPİ

The hedgehog is commonly around 25 cm long, with the hedgehogs back being covered in spikes. The hedgehog can also protect itself by curling its body into a ball so only the hedgehog spikes are exposed. This method of only exposing the spikes of the hedgehog, keeps the hedgehog safe from predators. The hedgehog is a nocturnal mammal that naturally feasts on bugs and insects. It has been known for humans to domesticate hedgehogs in their gardens, by feeding the hedgehog year round until the hedgehog goes into hibernation in the winter. DEVAMI

HIPPOPOTAMUSSU AYGIRI

Groups of hippos are led by one large male. The other members are females, their young, and a few young adult males. The leader of the group keeps control of his mating territory by fighting off rivals. The family group of hippos spends most of the day in the water. HONEY BEEBAL ARISI

Honeybees live in colonies with one queen running the whole hive. Worker honeybees are all females and are the only bees most people ever see flying around outside of the hive. They forage for food, build the honeycombs, and protect the hive. Many species still occur in the wild, but honeybees are disappearing from hives due to colony collapse disorder. Scientists are not sure what is causing this collapse. DEVAMI

HORSE – AT

Horses evolved over 50 million years from small many toed animals to the big beautiful, single-toed horses of today. The modern horse has been domesticated around the world for many reasons including transportation and battle. Horses have remarkable hearing and are almost able to have 360 degree hearing. The sense of smell of the horse is better than that of a human but the horse tends to rely more on vision than smell. Their field of monocular vision is almost 360 degrees with a narrower field of binocular vision in front and slightly to the sides.

HORSE FLY – AT SİNEĞİ

Horse fly, any member of the insect family Tabanidae, but more specifically any member of the genus Tabanus. These stout flies, as small as a housefly or as large as a bumble bee, are sometimes known as greenheaded monsters; their metallic or iridescent eyes meet dorsally in the male and are separate in the female. Gad fly, a nickname, may refer either to the fly’s roving habits or to its mouthparts, which resemble a wedge-shaped miner’s tool. Other such names are breeze fly and ear fly. One of the most common species has bright-green eyes and is known as green head. The genus Chrysops, usually known as deer fly, is slightly smaller than Tabanus and has dark markings on the wings.

HUMMINGBIRD – SİNEKKUŞU

There are nearly 350 known species of hummingbird, found throughout the Southern Hemisphere. Hummingbirds beat their wings 15-80 times every second (depending on the species) meaning that the hummingbird has the incredible ability to hover in the air. The hummingbird is also the only species of bird that is able to fly backwards.

HYDRA – HİDRA

Predatory hydra feed on insect larvae and, especially, small crustaceans, such as water fleas, seed shrimps and copepods. However, any small animal up to the size of the hydra may be engulfed. Hydra can be found in large variety of freshwater habitats. They mostly occur in ponds, lakes, and slow flowing parts of streams and rivers. Hydra are sessile and live attached to aquatic vegetation, submerged wood, or stones. Hydra remain stationary for long periods, although they may move by bending the body, attaching with the tentacles, releasing the basal disc, and re-attaching.
