🥟 Ingredients for Manti

To prepare this delicious traditional Turkish dumpling dish, you will need the following ingredients:

  • 2 cups of all-purpose flour

  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt

  • 2 eggs

  • About 1/2 teaspoon of water (add more if necessary)

  • 2 onions, peeled and finely shredded

  • 1/2 pound (about 225 g) of ground beef

  • Salt and black pepper to taste

  • 3 tablespoons of vegetable oil

  • 1 tablespoon of red pepper flakes

  • 1 tablespoon of minced garlic

  • 1 container (8 oz) of plain yogurt


🍴 Preparing the Dough

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt.

  2. Add in the eggs and water, mixing everything together with your hands until a soft dough forms.

  3. If the dough feels too dry, add a little more water.

  4. Cover the dough with a clean cloth and let it rest for about 30 minutes.


🥩 Making the Filling

  1. Grate the onions and place them in a strainer to remove excess juice. Discard the liquid.

  2. In a bowl, mix the grated onion with ground beef, salt, and pepper.

  3. Stir well with a spoon until the mixture becomes smooth and well combined.


🔪 Shaping the Manti

  1. Divide the rested dough into two pieces.

  2. On a floured surface, roll out one portion as thin as possible into a rectangle. Keep the second portion covered to prevent drying.

  3. Cut the rolled dough into small squares, about 2 inches each.

  4. Place a small spoonful of filling in the center of each square.

  5. Bring the corners together and pinch tightly to form dumplings.

  6. Place the prepared manti on a floured plate and dust with more flour to prevent sticking. Repeat with the second piece of dough.


🌶️ Preparing the Sauce

  1. Heat vegetable oil in a small pan over low heat. Add the red pepper flakes and gently cook until the oil changes color. Be careful not to burn the flakes. Remove from heat and keep warm.

  2. In a separate bowl, mix the minced garlic into the yogurt. This will be used as a cold sauce topping.


🍲 Cooking and Serving

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.

  2. Add the manti dumplings and cook for about 20–25 minutes, until the meat is fully cooked and the dough becomes tender.

  3. Drain the manti well and divide them into serving plates.

  4. Spoon the garlic yogurt sauce over the dumplings.

  5. Finally, drizzle the hot pepper oil on top before serving.
